Being a Mayo GAA supporter does sometimes have some perks, one being a trip to New York when Mayo take on New York in the preliminary round of the Connacht Championship, once (thankfully!) every five years. As ever Mayo supporters traveled in their droves with over 3000 traveling from Ireland & England alone! Over 6 thousand attended the match on the day, match photos here.

We arrived in New York on the Friday afternoon and with the match not on until Sunday, we had plenty of time to get some sightseeing in. One of the first stops was Central Park as the last time I was in New York (again for a Mayo match in 2009) I didn’t get chance to visit the park. We were staying at 44th & 8th which was 15 blocks from Central Park, about a 25 minute walk. Central Park is big! You could spend a whole day there and still not see it all.

Above is the Bethesda Fountain, a famous film location where numerous films were made. As you can see in the photo, its also used as a photo location for newly weds. The couple in the photo were one of four newly weds getting their photos taken while we were there.

Thanks to Tom for taking the above photo for me, I’m usually behind the camera! For the week I was in New York I took in total of 1682 photos, I’ve loads more to upload. Some of the Mayo fan photos that I took can be viewed here. If you know anyone in any of the photos, please tag them.
