Mayo v Kerry Rd 5 1st March 2025
What a turnaround with this Mayo team against Kerry! I wasn’t too bothered, really, win loose or draw in this game. I was more worried on what sort of performance the team would show us this week. Boy, what a performance they gave. Came out of the blocks running. We always play our best football playing a running attacking game. And it showed against Kerry. What a shift Aido put in, brilliant game he had. The rest of the lads played brilliant too, they all seemed to have got a boost from the burst of play in the first half.
What was really positive too was the number of different scorers in the first half, points scored from 5 different players if I’m not mistaken. We also really dominated midfield which set up our attacks. What a shift also that Donnacha McHugh put in against Clifford. He stuck to him like glue and knocked Clifford off his usual scoring returns. Ryan ODonoghue too had a cracking match, scoring 9 points in total that won him man of the match. This was a vital win for Mayo, but more importantly was the improvement in our performance for me. We are now on 5 points and in 4th position in the league table. Its on now to Derry next, up in the Bogside, the day before St Patrick’s day. Mayo 0-21 to Kerry 1-16.
