Mayo v Monaghan Rd 7 26th March 2023
Monaghan came to Castlebar, badly needing a win to keep them up in division 1 for next year. They were well up for it from the get go, and a win they succeeded in getting. From Mayo’s point of view though, this match wasn’t too important, win loose or draw, we were in the league final regardless.
This was a great opportunity for Kevin to give lads a run out, and other lads a bit of a rest. We have the league final (against Galway) next Sunday in Croke Park. We then have Roscommon at home the following Sunday in the first round of the Connacht Championship, so its tough going on all the squad.
The day was great for a match so I headed for the terrace (it felt like the middle of summer in the sunshine!). The sun was so strong, I’d a lot of difficulty getting video footage, I couldn’t see the screen so shot blind for most of the match!
You can view all the match discussion and match report over on WJ’s blog. Onwards now to Croke Park yet again, to meet our neighbours in the final. There’ll be a few marriages under strain again with Mayo and Galway meeting in a final!!
Mayo 0-14, Monaghan 2-14.
