66th St Patrick’s Day Parade Swinford 2017
Some photos and video of the 66th St Patricks day parade Swinford 2017. Despite the very poor weather, which was the cause of a lot of parades being postponed, Swinford parade went ahead as scheduled. The weather may have been poor but the Swinford spirit was not dampened today! The winners of today’s parade will be announced at the awards ceremony in the Gateway Hotel on Sunday night. This years parade participants were, Midfield Pipe band, Culmore National school, Foxford Brass Band, Marian Callaghan, Green Sod Ireland, Midfield National School, Swinford Athletic Club, Swinford Special Olympics, Meelick National School Band, M.A.S.K Swinford Karate Club, Swinford/Killasser Ladies Gaelic football club, Scoil Muire agus Treasa Swinford, Naionra Montessori Swinford, St Jphn’s Carramore National School Samba band, Swinford & District Credit Union, Light Into Darkness – Banada Group, Bens Forge Foxford, Swinford Men’s Shed, Swinford Drama Group, Swinford Agricultural Show, Eddie O’Hara Neiphen View Restoration Group, Baxter Healthcare and MG Plant Swinford.

Great set of pics, Michael. Could anyone explain the numbering of the St Pat’s Day parades at 66? My father would tell me about the parade when he was a boy and that’s going back a good while as he was born in 1913.
I think its the 66th successive St Patrick’s day parade in Swinford Michael. There used to be parades in earlier years but not every year I think. Cannon Stenson I think it was, started the annual parade in Swinford in 1951 or ’52 I think, and there has been a parade every year since.
