Swinford hosted Fleadh Mhaigh Eo 2013 over the weekend of 10th, 11th and 12th of May. There were over 500 entries in the various categories of the Fleadh competition! My own Nephew Dylan came 2nd in his age group in the Fiddle, his first County Fleadh medal. A huge crowd descended on Swinford town for the weekend, with traditional Irish music sessions in every pub and hotel in the town.
I recorded a good few tunes over the 3 days in Mellett’s Emporium on Market Street and have uploaded some of them to the video page on the site here. I didn’t get to any other session around town, but from what I’ve heard, they were all equally brilliant you couldn’t tear yourself away! I have heard the Fleadh Mhaigh Eo will be returning to Swinford in 2014. Make sure to keep your diary free in early May 2014 and come to Swinford for some brilliant Traditional Irish Music Sessions.
