Parke's Castle

Parke’s Castle

On a recent outing with Swinford Camera Club, we visited Parke’s Castle which is located on the shores of Lough Gill in Leitrim. This is a beautifully restored plantation Castle dating from the early 17th century.

In the courtyard you can see the evidence of an earlier tower house which is believed to date from the 16th century. This is one of those hidden gems, which up until recently, I didn’t even know existed!! I would highly recommend a visit to Parke’s Castle if you had a couple of hours to spare on a Sunday afternoon.

The castle can be found on the main Sligo to Dromahair road, about 2 miles the Sligo side of Dromahair. The day that we were there, there was a passenger boat docked at the pier beside the castle which did tours of the lake but was not operating that day. You can find more information on the Heritage Ireland website. You can view all the photos here.
